About Matthew
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from West Chester University of Pennsylvania (WCU), receiving my Middle Grades Education degree with a concentration in Mathematics. I also completed Minors in Mathematics Education K-8 & Adolescent Psychology.
In 2021, I earned my Masters Degree in Education from WCU, focusing on applied teaching and learning as well as a concentration in educational technology.
I have five years of teaching experience in Pennsylvania's public school systems. I have taught numerous concepts in arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry in my classrooms. In that time, I have developed ways to differentiate my lessons in order to present the material that plays to the strengths of each individual student, giving them their best chance to understand mathematical topics.

Extensive experience with Singapore Math based curriculums. I utilize the CPA (Concrete - Pictorial - Abstract) approach to teaching mathematics with a focus in conceptual understanding.
A typical lesson includes:
-Connecting previous knowledge to current content.
-Building conceptual knowledge using pictorial representations and digital resources to make sure students understand the ideas behind the material.
-Modeling and guided practice of procedural steps of problem solving.
-Individual practice problem and review.
I also am happy to provide video resources and breakdown of any and all covered topics.
I have taught 7th and 8th grade Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry content for the past 5 years so I am well versed in making difficult math ideas more understandable.
