About Carol
You don't need a PhD to be a great teacher! What you need is an excellent understanding of the curriculum and the ability to pass that knowledge on in a way that's easy for the student to understand. I taught Foundation GCSE maths full time for 12 years and have been tutoring KS3 and GCSE online for the past 3 years. During that time I have worked with several home schooled students. I teach from year 7 to adults. I love teaching maths and I have always had a good rapport with my students. I have a high level of success in improving student grades.

Working in FE Colleges meant that every year was exam year for all of our students and we covered the whole syllabus from start to finish. Many of my students have already taken their exams at least once and many lack motivation and confidence! I understand that 'not everyone gets it' and that many are only taking maths as they have no choice. I am patient and flexible in my approach. Typical lessons last for 1 hour starting with a quick check of prior knowledge to choose the correct starting point. I explain, I model and I check understanding before moving on. My aim is to simplify maths and build confidence. I will match the pace of the lesson to the student involved to help and encourage them to do their very best and make progress. Some homework will be beneficial. The type and amount will depend on the individual. However, with a little independent practice the student will know whether or not they have fully understood. Self-assessment is as necessary and important as tutor assessment. With open dialogue and discussion, we will discover where any mistakes have been made and why they have occurred. Then I can find the way to correct and give clarity. I am experienced with AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Edexcel Foundation International exam boards.

Excellent! Carol was patient and encouraging with my son. She was happy to go over things repeatedly, and then send summaries and powerpoints after the lesson, which helped him to anchor her explanations.
- Teo was an excellent student. He was always punctual and positive and worked really hard.Carol's response :

My mum, Carol, has a lot of experience with students who have difficulty understanding maths. As a child, I didn't understand even the most basic maths ideas. Carol helped me with a huge amount of petience and dedication. And later she helped me with her encouragement when maths got too stressful at GCSE.
Then she got her qualifications and started teaching foundation maths in college. Since then she has met a lot of students with different backgrounds and different issues with passing their exams.
I recomend Carol because she understands that maths can be difficult, she doesn't judge, and all she asks for is that you try your best.I worked closely alongside Carol for some time when Carol was teaching Maths GCSE students in England; I have the utmost respect for her. She is very dedicated and cares deeply about helping her students to develop their mathematical skills. Carol has a strong set of values including an impressive work ethic. She also has a fabulous sense of humour that helps her to develop effective relationships with students. I'd love to work with her again!

I am an ex-colleague of Carol's and would highly recommend her as a tutor. She is patient, gives clear explanations and is very good at recognising misconceptions and helping individuals to reach their goals.

Paul DJ RamsdenI have managed Carol for many years at Derby College. Carol is an extremely hard working and dedicated teacher. She can teach maths across a range of levels, and plans interesting and engaging lessons. She can explain concepts in different ways. She also has excellent classroom management skills.
Carol is a creative, positive teacher. She builds relationships quickly with her professional and friendly manner which makes learning fun for all she teaches. She understands the barriers that some learners face and works hard to not only impart her knowledge but to build her pupil's confidence and self belief. She is extremely organised and reliable and faces any challenges with a calmed assurance that a solution can be found. I couldn't recommend her more highly.
