About Joakim
For over 14 years, I have been teaching children in various settings. I started out as a guitar teacher, teaching one-to-one lessons and group lessons in schools and running various guitar orchestras. From there, I began working in primary schools as a teaching assistant, where I taught small groups reading and arithmetic skills. After over four years of that, I moved on to become a qualified high school maths teacher, working in the inner city schools of London. I have now been a math teacher for the last seven years, teaching ages 11-16. My students leave my classroom not only with a smile on their face but with the results they want.
During my time as a teacher, I became very interested in the 'Maths Mastery' way of teaching mathematics. This method focuses on students' deep understanding of mathematical concepts, linking topics, making conjectures, and discovering. It moves away from the usual algorithmic/memorizing method. This method has proved successful with my students, who have not only achieved fantastic results but, more importantly, it has brought enjoyment to a notoriously challenging subject.
