About Abby
I believe in fostering a learning environment of curiosity, tailored feedback and pursuit of excellence.
My passion for teaching has taken various forms over the last decade; private tutoring, running adult programming workshops, leading children’s Code Clubs and volunteering as a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) ambassador in schools.
As a professional Software Engineer with experience in the Education Technology, Finance and eCommerce sectors, I extend the joy of learning in my work to help learners excel, and have fun doing so.

I teach by the following principles:
- Curiosity: encourage exploration and experimentation over the fear of failure. Takes the form of small, experimental projects to introduce concepts and spark discussion.
- Fast, tailored feedback: adapt to the learner’s pace and style throughout. Apply cognitive load theory to support effective learning at a sustainable pace. Takes the form of longer guided projects that give a sense of achievement quickly and compound learning.
- Pursuit of excellence: provide accessible sessions whilst encouraging the learner to challenge themselves. Takes the form of end of session discussion, exam practice and stretch-goal-setting.
My tutoring curriculum focuses on computational thinking for absolute beginners, functional programming and mathematics.
