About Margo
I have been a creative arts teacher for nearly twenty years. I have combined acting and singing and movement, to create a deeply embodied approach to the expressive arts. The more I work with my students, the more I feel the need to allow them a safe space to express and feel all of themselves, with their vocals, embodied characters, and with their practices. Currently as I teach, students feel and express parts of themselves that enable them to feel more whole, more expressed. This position will enable me the theatrical position, I am dreaming about, and the tools to engage and encourage the students, into a full feeling of freedom, across all racial and socioeconomic expanses.
The creative modalities I would bring to the position would be improvisational technique, stage combat, scene study, mask work, musical theatre, Theatre Outreach, Physical Acting, and Shakespeare. I love to collaborate with my peers and thrive on theatrical outreach. Most recently I directed and co-wrote a zoom production of " Girls Can...", stringing together a work that emphasised inclusivity and young talent with Broadway professionals. I am happy to share a link of the show for you to watch!
My first teaching experience was what drew me into my current line of work in theatre and education. I worked with Yonkers PS 40, teaching low income students Hip Hop dance. The fifth grade class taught us hip hop dance, and we taught them how to use their strengths and passions to create an experience where they could lead and teach. What ends up happening in the creative experience, is the children are able to draw upon their own lives and come through feeling more expressed and heard, and they begin to open up and talk. Another experience I had in human services was with PS23 in Manhattan, in a special education class. I came in as a professional actor to teach playwriting to third graders. We warmed up the class with fun games and acting exercises, and they told us stories, real or made up. From these stories, we created plays with the students. The plays were performed on the Broadway stage of Circle in the Square Theatre School, and the playwrights, our students, were there to watch and even direct sometimes! Working in human services, and theatre, is continually a line through my life. From discounting anyone who needs financial help in my yoga classes, to being a safe place for Trans students to find their new vocal tones, and even now, I save a few low income spaces in my creative teaching courses, and allow teachers a reduced rate, or anyone facing hardships, to pay what they can.
I am a Sarah Lawrence College, BADA in Oxford, and Circle in the Square Graduate.
My work ethic, passion for my craft, and desire for my students to improve, is what drives me.
I am an acting teacher with an enormous well of empathy, I work with passion, and ferver. I work high above what is to be expected, putting in extra hours, to make my heart and soul part of the pieces. I give my students enough encouragement to trust themselves and their voices, and work with them specifically in the ways they need most.
I create original curriculums, and can be found currently directing original works, teaching improv classes, and teaching acting and singing at Hao Expressions, and the Palo Alto Theatre Company. I am relocating to the Los Angeles Area in the Spring, and would love to begin a new life and work at your amazing institution, Crosswords School, and one of such inclusion and passion for the arts.
My influences in teaching are Kristin Linklater, Stanislavsky, and the British Approach to Acting, and Physical Movement. My ability to lead with empathy, brings a heart and soul to the work, and creates beautiful performances, and long lasting love of the theatre. I will never forget a student, and can only hope they can move on through their studies, knowing what support drama will have for them, always.

New students will get to know me and I will get to know them in an introductory 15 minute class.
We then decide if they want private lessons or group classes, and we decide accordingly.
In private lessons, the students are given recital performances, quarterly.
In group lessons, the students work with Broadway and Hollywood co-teachers.
Lessons are currently virtual!
Once we get started, we go with a five week plan, and renew every 5 weeks.
Whether it be audition preparation, a new hobby, or a lifelong dream, we make it happen, with the hard work!
I have worked with children as young as two, who wanted to be on Broadway, and made it! And I have worked with yoga teachers, and trans persons who want to find their voice.
I have worked with students all over the country during this pandemic, and many of whom were beginners, and now are in my advanced group, and auditioning!
I am a teacher of all, and my biggest joy are my students' successes.
I recently co-wrote, directed, and produced a virtua musical of "Girls Can..." with Noel Katz. It feautred 9 young girls who are students of mine, a 16 year old male student of mine, and 3 professional Broadway Actors. The mentorship between the professionals and the up and coming stars, the new music, and the love of the craft, made for an extremely wonderful, and profound evening of theater, and 6 week rehearsal processes! I look forward to more musicals, soon!

I’ve been listening to my daughter belt it out in Margo’s classes for several weeks now and not only is her singing progressing, but she’s having a blast. Margo is a teacher who is passionate about what she does and who has a knack for putting kids at ease and having fun together in class. It’s the best way to learn! Margo engaged and built a relationship with my daughter over zoom. She helped her identify her interest in acting and tailored lessons to her. She helped the group put on performances that gave the lessons a directed purposes. The lessons have been the highlight of her week!
