About James
I can teach you anything from fundamentals like stance, pre-shot routine and stroke mechanics to more advanced concepts such as bank and kick shots, jump shots, combinations, caroms and billiard shots. So no matter if you've never held a pool cue or you're a seasoned veteran, take your game to the next level for less than the price of a good pool cue when you bring me on as your instructor/ coach!
I took a 2 day course with Stan Shuffett and I was so impressed with how much I learned and could apply to my game to improve as a player I became inspired to become an instructor myself!
I have trained under PBIA Master Instructors Stan Shuffett, Jerry Briesath, Randy Goettlicher and Anthony Beeler. I am a PBIA Advanced Certified Instructor. PBIA stands for Professional Billiard Instructors Association. I have also competed as a player/team captain in leagues and tournaments since 2005.

First, I like to find out where the student is currently in terms of their knowledge and ability. That way I can customize my teaching so that I'm not covering areas that the student may already be knowledgeable in. I also like to find out up front what the student hopes to learn or achieve by taking lessons with me. I do my best to help every student attain that goal!
I have worked with many types of students ages from 7 to 70+, Men, Women, Children of all shapes, sizes and nationalities.
Communicate with the prospective instructor long enough to see if you can get a feel for his/her passion for the sport. If they have little or no passion then you're probably better off just watching YouTube videos!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think and state SPECIFICALLY what their goals are! The most common answer I get is for the player to improve/get better at the game and a new student will improve almost by default due to increased time at the pool table. Isolate specific areas of your game that you want to improve like stroke mechanics (always a work in progress), position play, cue ball control, etc.. For casual, non competitive players it might just be to have a better all around knowledge of the sport and that's okay too!

I worked with James to help on some issues I had. He answered my questions that I had about areas I was struggling with. He did a great job of analyzing the videos and identifying the issues I could not find myself. He does a great job of teaching. I love the way he communicated and breaks down the problems. With his help and practice I jump up in my ratings for both 8 & 9 ball.

I can’t say enough good things about James! When I first started taking lessons with him I didn’t know the first thing about pool and was not confident in my skills at all. I now play with friends multiple times a week and am considering joining a league! James is kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable in his craft. He’s great at explaining and demonstrating new concepts, as well as watching you take shots and giving you concrete things to improve on. He also provides you with reading materials on the concepts you learned in each lesson so you can practice them on your own which I found so helpful! And most importantly, he makes pool fun and not too serious :) Thank you James!

My standard pricing is currently $51 an hour with a 2 hour minimum. Discounts are available for commitments over 2 hours. Travel fees may apply if over 50 miles from me.
