About Elaina
I offer tutoring in general chemistry and organic chemistry. I am currently an undergraduate Chemistry B.S. student at my university. I have developed a strong passion for chemistry and a desire to show other students that chemistry can be fun and interesting, even though it can be tough at times. I find ways to break down complex concepts into smaller ideas that make the material easier to understand. I have been tutoring for 2 1/2 years at my university through the Academic Support office. I have also been a teaching assistant in an organic laboratory for 2 years. Over the years, I have been doing research in synthetic organic chemistry and physical/analytical chemistry. I have presented my work at the Fall 2018 American Chemical Society meeting in Boston, MA and have been inducted into the chemistry honor society.

When working with a new student, I like to learn what exactly it is that they're struggling with. For example, is it a certain concept, the teaching style, the math, retaining what they were taught, etc. After figuring out the root of the misunderstanding, I introduce different methods of understanding the material and find which one works best for the student. For example, trying models, rhymes or saying that help the student remember the material, etc.
