I've been performing Stand Up/Improvisation Comedy since the early 1900's when I did my 1st Stand Up Performance @ McGuillicudy's which is a bar located near Southern Maine Technical College in Cape Elizabeth, Maine
I got started teaching people how to become Stand Up Comedians because I heart what I do: I have FFUN teaching people as we're all teachers believe it or not! I love what I do: I wouldn't have it any other way...
I've been to a ton of Comedy Performances and sometimes I just like showing up and not saying anything and waiting until I want to come back the next week and then do my thing: sometimes, U just want to bask in the Atmosphere of Comedyville and all the exciting new faces on the stage for the evening. It's a lot of FFUN to go somewhere where U sign up and pick a number before U get on stage, etc. A True Professional Comedian won't put U 1st or last: he or she will just let U get on stage for the Number that you've chosen. If you're considered a HEADLINER then confront the Comedian so that U don't get pre-empted for the night and not get to perform at all as some Comedians just don't understand how to run a show the proper way: doesn't matter if you're getting started performing Stand Up or that you've graduated to the MC of the show which means you control the show and do a great job of making sure that everybody gets to say something for the evening, etc. I also wrote a book about Comedy called How I Became A Better Comedian - Ashley A. The process of working with a new student is to make them feel as comfortable as possible w/ the learning process as Comedy is all about owning the stage whether you fail or succeed at it: not every performance will go off as intended and that's the Nature of Stand Up/Improvisation Comedy: been there, done that: I'm a Professional which means that I take being FUNNY very seriously and I don't mind when I make mistakes, etc. You will find your voice on stange, etc. and that's the BEST part of becoming a Stand Up Comedian: if U can perform Stand Up Comedy then U can do just about anything else which requires U to use your voice. Just make sure that when U record your comedy that it's not done on tape as "Ambient Noise" will ruin the performance and some shows you've performed LIVE! just won't be salvagable. Make sure that U use a camera or a cell phone to record the Stand Up Experience of between 3-5 minutes: you'll be LUCKY if U can get on the stage more than 1X in the evening. Then U can post your Comedy Performances on Tik Tok, Instagram, You Tube, etc. Comedy IS one of the funniest things that U can do as an Amateur or a Professional Comedian as U get paid for that when U do it and control the Comedy for 1-3 hours depending on the Club, etc.
I've worked w/ people from every Socio Economic Background U can think of: name it and I've taught them. Comedy is something that doesn't cost any money to do unless U start your own Comedy Club and hire the correct people to get the job done: The monicker on the door reads WE DISCRIMINATE AGAINST EVERYBODY and I do mean everybody: it's the Nature of The Comedy Beast.
The BEST ADVICE that I can give U is to hire somebody who knows his or her stuff and has done 1000's of shows in or out of the area they live in, etc. and to get so good at it that people remember your name, etc. You become THE Elite of The Comedy World in your town, city or ???
A recent even I am fond of was performing strictly for Comediens in the audience and a few audience members. It was FFUN performing to an almost EMPTY CLUB: if U can handle that U can handle anything in the world of comedy. That was The Free Street Taverna on Free Street here in Portland, Maine.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student of Comedy should write down a 25 word paragraph about what they hope to get out of learning from a PRO who will teach them to find their voice and get up on the stage and do the best darn job they can w/ being a Comedian, etc.

30 per session of roughly an hour of class work. You can take 1 class or 10 classes so that U can master becoming a Funny Stand Up Comedian: You never want to become a Famous Comedian. What U really want is to ENJOY your time up on the stage and being able to make an Audience Laugh their butts off: that's your job once U get the hang of it...
