About Romain
Nerds On Call is all about making technology approachable and accessible. We offer an array of services at our shop in Portland, and want to try offering 1:1 support for our community.
If you are interested in building your first gaming computer, or you're interested in VR but don't know what to buy or where to start, we're your guys to walk you through that step by step - so that rather than having us do it for you, you have a partner to help you learn.
If you want to learn more basic steps of computer repair and maintenance for your own self knowledge, or you want to optimize your network or smarthome, we're happy to help with that too!
Romain has had a passion for computers since he was 4 years old. He was the little kid constantly taking apart toys (and household appliances) that moved or made noise because he wanted to to see how they worked. Little did he know that getting them back together would prove to be a challenge (at first)
By the time he was 10, he was helping his parents troubleshoot computer issues, and the go-to when the internet was acting up. As an adult he has built and helped others build countless custom computers, solved complex network issues, and optimized smarthome set ups - and loved every minute of it! It's like a physical sudoku puzzle - the satisfaction of accomplishing a complicated repair is unlike any other.
Romain has a background in outdoor education, having taught complex outdoor skills like woodcarving, bowbuilding, and friction fire to kids and adults alike.
With regards to computers, I grew up having to rely on myself to cater to my interest, with the wealth of knowledge available on the internet as my primary resource.
I served as a counselor in training in outdoor education at the tail end of high school, and went on to lead and eventually coordinate a variety of programs for kids and adults over the span of six years - largely revolving around primitive living and wilderness survival skills.
