About Michael
If you are ready and interestested in committing to the development your artistic voice then this is your chance to begin that journey.
I hold both a BFA and MFA in painting and began teaching at the collegiate level in 1998 until 2020.
My work has been included in numerous group and solo shows throughout the US, London, Hong Kong and Tel Aviv.
I have taught all levels of drawing and painting classes from Introduction to Oil Painting and Water based media exploration all the way to Graduate level thesis classes over the last 20 years at the preeminent art and design school of the south. My services can provide you a college level of practice and understanding without the college level prices.
If you want to learn the basic fundamentals to advanced applications of drawing/painting, the use of a wide variety of materials from traditional to experimental, exploration of form and value, a deep understanding of COLOR and color mixing, as well as concept/idea develepment to create a cohesive body of work with a rigor equal to college level courses then I can help you.
If you are trying to develop a portfolio for consideration of college level training I can also help you with that.
I have worked with students and adults of all levels of experience from young beginners to adults wanting to finally pursue their true passion of painting and drawing.
I have been committed to being an artist since I was a child. My whole life has revolved around living a creative life. I began teaching when I was 28 because I believed that it will always be my responsibility to pass on the insights and passion for art that 2 very significant teachers passed on to me.
After teaching for 20 years at the collegiate level I realized that the antithesis of creativity is working for a grade. There are no industry standards for the visual arts which begs the question what purpose does a BFA/MFA serve?
Drawing and Painting are practices that hone ones ability to truly "see" and communicate information beyond what we already know. It is a chance to create new understandings of the environment we exist in while expanding our relationship to it.
Every person/artist is different from one another. Some artists are focused on technical development while others focus more on idea development. As your teacher I can help formulate an approach to your artistic practice that is customized to your artistic ambitions.
I started teaching at an early age because I felt that it was my responsibility to pass on the knowledge and skills that I was afforded by two very significant mentors.

Initially it is going to be important to establish what the student is wanting to achieve artistically. A baseline of skills will need to be established along with an understanding of long term artistic goals. This way a specific plan can be created in order to achieve this goal.
I have worked with students of all ages from the teens to retirees. I have worked with students from all walks of life and locations all over the world.
Look for an instructor that is as passionate as you are while demonstrating the skillsets that you know will challenge you to become the best that you can.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The most important question to address are what are your long term artistic goals?
What are your short term artistic goals? (1 year, 6 month, 1 month)
Do you have an idea of how you would like to apply your artistic ambitions in the future?
These questions can begin to focus the needs of the student while identifying to the potential instructor what the best plan would be in order to achieve the goals set by both parties.

Introductory session of $50. This is a chance for the student and instructor to identify what the skillsets and artistic goals while developing a plan to achieve the outlined goals
$150 per session. 2 hrs
$100 per session if you sign up for 5 week course.
