About Anatol
As an immigrant from Russia trained in classical techniques, I bring a rigorous but approachable method to art lessons. I help my students feel confident about their skills and grow into their potential as amateur or professional artists.
I enjoy seeing my students make progress as they create artworks and discover their artistic talents.
I started teaching over 35 years ago in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Bachelor degree in Art from St. Petersburg Art Lyceum at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, Russia. Masters degree in Art from St. Petersburg Theatre Academy.
Certified Therapeutic Art Life Coach.

At the start, I ask what a student is looking to get out of lessons, whether it's fun, personal enrichment, professional development, academic growth, etc.
If the student has previously studied art, I invite them to share anything they would like about their past experience - whether they would like to build on it or go in a different direction. If the student is newer to art, we start with a more basic introduction to the techniques that we will be working on, in accordance with the student's areas of interest.
Based on this initial discussion, I help the student design a program for lessons at my studio.
I have worked with students of all ages, from preschoolers to high schoolers to adults.

I am a beginner student with Anatol Woolf and he is extremely knowledgeable and patient. He not only teaches technique, but guides me through the process with clarity and understanding. I took private art lessons with Anatol Woolf for 5 years from middle school through high school. He helped me develop and enrich my art skills through various mediums, such as pencil, colored pencil, water color, oil, and sculpture. Anatol played a pivotal role in helping me build my art portfolio to use to apply to architecture programs, where I was accepted early decision to Cornell University. In the beginning of my time working with Anatol, he took a more "hands-on" approach in teaching me, but he would still give me time to work through difficult problems alone before he stepped in. By the end of my 5 years with him, I was working completely independently, only using his aid when it was absolutely necessary. I recommend anyone of all skill levels to work with Anatol! He is an incredible artist and art teacher!
Anatol Woolf is talented and professonal art teacher. I attened one-on-one classes with Anatol the year after graduating from undergrad. I received a minor in art and wanted to take lessons from Anatol in classical techniques. I loved his instruction and tips. The studio was clean, bright, and comfortable. His instructions were clear and logical. Ultimately, I used my completed projects to apply to MICA's Post-Bacc program and was accepted. Anatol helped me achieve my dream of attending MICA and I am forever grateful. I highly recommend him for all levels of artists seeking to grow in knowledge and skill.
Anatol taught me drawing, watercolor and oil painting during my final year of high school, allowing me to prepare a fiercely competitive portfolio that would win several competitions and gain me admission to many top tier undergraduate architecture programs. His training was not only transformative for my technique in the arts but foundational to my success throughout USC's rigorous architecture program and later at Harvard Graduate School of Design. To this day, a decade later, Anatol's lessons impact me as a practicing architect as I draw and design in high-pressure and high-stakes environments. Anatol continues to rank among the top 3 instructors I've ever worked with, and has my highest gratitude and recommendation.
