About Jane
I have proven over the years to demystify the creative process for beginners. I create a safe, non judgemental space to discover, play and take risks while exploring one's own inner artist. Whether representational or abstract, via various mediums and techniques, my students find authentic works of art, are within their reach!
I have 30 years working with special needs populations, veterans and mainstream of all ages. My students have won National 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards and have been chosen to exhibit their art at the DE Art Museum where I presently teach classes. I have recieved several grants and/or awards for my students.
I am passionate in the belief that we are all born with the ability to create and just need the opportunity and freedom to express oneself free of limitations. I primarily give private lessons but can accommodate up to 3 students at one time in my studio in Wilmington, DE.
I also facilitate my version of a "Paint and Sip" although my approach has a differant aesthetic. For these particular gatherings, I come to your space, you provide drink and food if desired. I provide all supplies and guidance needed to walk home with an authentic piece of art, abstract or realistic! 5-10 participants; 2 hours; $50. each.

Witnessing the excitement in the eyes of my students when realizing, they can do this! When they understand that making "mistakes" is not only OK but can yield unexpected beautiful results. Seeing their satisfaction when leaving with art they never thought was within their reach, is a beautiful thing to help facilitate!
I was approached to develope and teach art to Seniors at a local Elder Day Care. This led to working with young to older adults with bi-polar, schizophrenia, autism or down syndrome.
Later on with Veterans at The Wilmington VA Hospital. Working with veterans of various physical and/or cognitive challenges. I have 14 years experience teaching at the DE Art Museum.
For 10 years I was the Art Director for the Bob Marley People's Festival which always included an Art Tent and an interactive art experience for the festival goers.
In between I have experience working with mainstream populations of children, teenagers, adults, veterans and senior citizens. We all have something significant to contribute to the art world!
I have an Asso.Degree in Graphic Arts from The Art Institute of Philadelphia. I also am an Accredited Special Arts Instructor through VSA program based in Washington, DC.
I have worked with special needs populations for almost 30 years, as well as mainstream students, young and old. I have 14 years experience at the DE Art Musuem teaching painting and drawing and presently teach our veterans.

I will typically ask about their history re: art and previous lessons, their goals, interests and expectations. We will discuss what subjects and mediums they are interested in as well as length of lesson they are interested in. To encourage being "Ok with the Unknown" and making "mistakes."
One only needs to have the desire to create and willing to put time and effort into this exciting journey! Art Happens!
I have worked with children, teenagers, senior citizens, seniors with memory issues, veterans and young adults with special needs such as autism, down syndrome and schizophrenia.
Seek out a teacher who you are comfortable with who is open to what you are looking for. Ask questions re: their style of teaching and their history of working with others. Do they themselves continue to create their own artwork.
There are so many! I did a workshop at a Women's Prison where I found such untapped potential! The art that resulted from that pediod was inspiring!
I helped to develope and facilitate Pop Up Playgrounds where large refrigerator and stove boxes are provided to children in a park setting. Other supplies such as cardboard tubes, large spools, chalk and paints are provided to enable the children to build their own world! It is very exciting where both child and adult join in.
I recently organized an art exhibit at the DE Art Museum studios exhibition space for a class of veterans I am presently teaching. It was well attended and was rewarding to see the pride on my students' faces as they presented their art to the public.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would encourage the student to think about what their short and long term goals are. What mediums they might like to explore and how willing are they to take risks throughout their creative journey. To seriously think about being comfortable with the "Unknown" and making "mistakes." To be open to changing the way they "see" and know creating works they are hoping for, doesn't happen overnight. Enjoy the process and rewarding artworks will follow!

Perfect! Jane has been working with our daughter for several weeks and we're already noticing the progress being made! In addition to her substantial teaching skills as a gifted artist herself, Jane's demeanor is quite warm and engaging at every lesson! My daughter has repeatedly mentioned how Jane listens so carefully to her and offers the mindful responses and answers to her questions that instill wisdom where it's needed. Additionally, Jane will frequently provide open-ended prompts for my daughter to find her own unique perspective from within herself; as an artist AND as a young PERSON. One must learn how to objectively and thoroughly perceive for themselves to truly understand anything! These efforts will transcend the creative experience through fostering the development of skills needed for realistically and carefully considered awareness of one's internal identity within the present environment, as well as the confident problem-solving that life demands...at seventeen and always! Brava, Jane! You possess value beyond price!

I have been extremely pleased with my overall experience of working with Jane as an art instructor. Jane has guided me in the exploration and use of different mediums and approaches to painting over the past 10 months. She always helps me to produce successful outcomes.
