About Joshua
Hi my name is Joshua Leak. I'm a 22 year old cellist, coach, curator & creative from Chicago, IL. I've been studying cello for 19 years! When I started, I was heavily influenced by my classical roots, but I loved all the artistic ideas that contemporary music had to offer, so I figured out a way to fuse my love for both into something I can do across all spaces. I love collaborating and seeing other young artists thrive. My goal is to help wherever I can in your journey, whether you need technical help or building yourself as an artist. My approach is focused on what we do as musicians day to day and how it can benefit us in the long run.
While music has been my passion forever, I have also come to love curating, speaking & coaching young and or inspired people to meet their goals physically, mentally & or spiritually.

I love seeing musicians of all ages succeed. I love watching them grow and whatever I can do to help them during their journey just really brings me a lot of joy.
I love seeing any and everyone win. As a collective, it is our job to uplift each other and so my work is based on ensuring mutual success.
When I was 15, I really wanted to help out younger cellist, and my high school gave me that opportunity. I was able to teach 3 kids, and I was able to see the value in teaching. I think it's so important to have such a good foundation starting, and I wanted to be a part of that.

The first lesson is typically just a "get to know you" lesson. I want to know about the student, what inspires them both in and outside of music. Then I like to view where they are at musically, technically, and artistically. Once we've establised where their at, I like to come up with a plan that will help them develop by a certain date. We outline 3 goals that we want to achieve by this date, and make sure that the practice sessions and lessons are revolving around these goals.
If you're hiring me as a coach, we'll schedule a zoom call so that I can figure out how I can best assist you with your goals.
I've worked with students that are just starting out, students that are intermediate level, students that are at an advanced level, students that just want a second opion on their playing, and students that are just looking to build their artistic selves.
Find a teacher that wants to invest in you to the fullest extent. Find a teacher that will watch out for you, and really be a mentor to you. Find someone that you know you'll get the most out of.
I recently held my first solo recital in 5+ years. I planned for this recital a year in advanced. Seeing it come together, really made me fall back in love with music and cello all over again, and I got to collaborate with every single artist I had wanted to work with.
