About Cecil
I've always enjoyed helping anyone figure things out.
My side work, tutoring, brought me kids, high school, and college undergrads- but esl online was my one shining option, when I lived again in my rural hometown. Shining so, I would rise at 5 am, exercise, caffeinate, and teach all but ten whole minutes of the next three hours plus, delivering lessons with fun and originality to the children of China via DaDa, the original ESL online titan.
We journeyed through Covid-19 on both sides of the waters, while I brought my talented wife into the field as Teacher Angela BBA for VIPKid, the #1 company in online learning according to Forbes Magazine. Her skill with their teaching method, and mine with conveying meaning, secured us first one two-bedroom apartment, but finally, one here, in our years-long goal, our home, Boulder, Colorado.
Due to China's restrictions on foreign teacher-based companies, my eventual primary company, GoGoKid, ended abruptly, with five dozen classes for me wiped off the schedule, effective August 5th, the day we found out. I hope my goodbye letters reach the children I taught there, especially those who booked me dozens, if not over a hundred, times. Teacher of 5700 classes, it's time to begin anew.
So, a new venture is begun. But what is LeoTech?
We have two services:
One, LeoTech is a fun-filled tour of Boulder, with interviews, footage of real-life processes, culture- all presented interactively, from the appropriate Earth Sciences or Arts context. Log in to my Zoom classes, with topics such as Air Quality, our pilot 'episode'- I've provided reading material suited to my young student (a seven year-old named Leo, yes), vocabulary, and application exercises, to mix in with a chat that encourages his usage of English, science and imagination. He'll see where and how we recycle, footage of the CA wildfire smoke, tree surgeons in cranes, our bike and e-scooter programs, and snips of green transport here. What an amazing hour this will be! I meet with him Sunday, 6am, internationally. That is how far I will go to learn my students' capabilities and respond with Montessori-inspired learning! This material is being compiled, ongoing, and can be tailored for your student.
Our second service reflects a more curriculum-based tutoring approach. We have courseware for online students available, and can craft lessons by need.
Teacher Angela BBA is joining me in private tutoring. She has three years' ESL online instruction experience with VIPKid, working 2 am to 7am five days a week, plus weekend nights, to deliver fun classes. She will transition her load to be available for afternoon hours and weekend mornings. She can't wait to meet you! Her Southern-accented flair and genuine cheer present her experience in an engaging fashion. She's a particularly skilled math tutor, also.
My interests begin with my writing career, which now includes video games, feature articles, novels, and songs. I can even teach a student how to turn her writing into interactive games, songs, and more. My love of Boulder- we are new here- encourages my curiosity. The museums and unique local businesses, as well as the natural science angle, makes my LeoTech sessions an interactive delight, with reviews and tiers of comprehension built over long-term relationships. A visceral grasp of Newtonian physics evades many of our young people, as documented by educators and researchers. I want to make the real world interesting to young people.
Finally, PSAT scores transformed my own life, long ago, through the scholarship which yielded my bachelor's degree from University of Alabama, which also bestowed Teacher Angela's degree. We are both TESOL-certified. We can mentor students through standardized testing!
Can't you feel, in these words, my passion for teaching? We are both available to help with undergraduate studies, and have tutored hundreds of classes at each level from first sounds to complete paragraphs and comprehension. I have a talent for helping organize essays, though my love for their craft prohibits me simply selling uncredited papers (not sorry).
I live to observe, also, and will work with your student or youself to comprehend your ability level, and how to keep reconciling that with your chosen goals!
Be chill, Cease ill

PS I am wise to scammers who want to deposit out-sized checks in my account. Scammers, you're wasting your time, go do something honest. Families, I welcome you.
The epiphany, when the perfect explanation forms between my student and I. The laugh, when we toss away stress, and come back refreshed to our lesson. The knowledge I'm passing from my teachers to new people invigorates my sense of purpose. I infuse my work with a sincere love for life and understanding.
I have been trained by four esl online companies, am TESOL-certified, and have years of professional performance and writing at the service of my teaching skills. In addition to in-person engagements, I have over 5700 online ESL classes to my credit.

First, a friendly get-to-know you, a couple of questions, our names. I like to know what they like and don't like about the particular subject with which they'd like help. Then, we dig into the subject. I begin assessing their abilities, answering any questions, first of all, for those are the pinpoints of both curiosity and frustration.
I don't mind making detailed presentations where appropriate, and will accrue any supplemental material I deem necessary. However, I much prefer the student to demonstrate his or her own understanding, and not talk over them. We want the person in question to take what they learn from me, and turn loose, and use it well.
I have worked with remedial, second-language students at the elementary level, but also, advanced students, including a savante who is reading English as his second language better than most American children. Also, high schoolers, college student friends.
