About Ashleigh
I am a former 5th grade teacher who found joy in teaching and LEARNING from my students. I celebrated big wins in the classroom and encouraged learners when they were struggling. Your learning experience should be as unique as you are, and with online tutoring, it can be!
After graduating from NC State I was accepted into Teach for America, which led to an incredible two years in the classroom with some really awesome students!
I taught 5th grade ELA and Social Studies for two years and have been out of the classroom for about a year now. Before that I taught summer school for rising 2nd graders, as well as tutored students K-5 in reading through a program called STEPS.

I think it is important for students to feel heard. That was the number one focus in my classroom. Once you can connect with a student by ensuring them that their feelings and opinions matter, that's when real learning can happen.
In my two years of teaching, I taught both students who were considered "gifted and talented" and those with IEPs. Many of my students had learning disabilities or ADHD. I also have many years of experience working with students who have other special needs.
It's important to find a teacher who knows what they are doing, but even more so one who cares about seeing students succeed. It is fun when you start doing things well and you should have a teacher celebrating your growth with you! You don't have to dread learning and school work. Believe it or not - there are teachers and tutors out there who will be patient with you when you struggle and aren't afraid to have an impromptu dance party when you finally figure it out.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Do you want to succeed? Do you want to do better? Do you want to enjoy learning and growing as a student? These questions matter, because even the best teacher in the entire world cannot change your attitude.
