About Whitney

I have found that it is rare to find teachers who can coach in the areas of both acting and singing. As an actress and a singer (in musicals, plays, etc.), I have found that the two are inextricable - it is impossible to sing well without the storytelling element of acting. Not only do I have quite a bit of experience in teaching and performing, but I also have learned so much from my own teachers and voice therapists. Acting and singing both are mental, physical, and emotional tasks. I love finding areas of breakthrough in all three realms, stretching creativity, and crafting performances that are moving, truthful, and applause worthy.

There is nothing I love more than singing an acting. As a performer myself, I love the art of storytelling. I have 10 years of experience in the performing arts. My acting and singing coaches have been such a valuable part of my support team. I would love to offer that same encouragement to others and pass along the knowledge and wisdom I have learned.

I started teaching when working summer drama camps at my high school 6 years ago. From there, I took classes on how to teach voice lessons as well as voice lessons for myself, took acting classes, and began teaching and directing in college.



I have 10 years of performance experience, acting, singing, and dancing. I have had 5 years of acting and singing coaching and 2 years of dance lessons. I am currently a college student studying theatre and musical theatre, so my acting and singing training is ongoing. I have 6 years of experience in directing, teaching, and coaching.

When I first work with a new student (whether acting or singing), I will hold a mock audition so I can evaluate their strengths as well as growth areas. From there, I will work with my student to establish goals, create a plan to achieve those goals, and help to foster positivity and growth in singing/acting.



I have worked with students of all ages and skill sets, from kindergarteners to college students.



Make sure to find a teacher who is right for you. If you know what you want and what you're looking for, don't be afraid to say so. Find a teacher who is encouraging, good at noticing the positives, and gentle with growth areas. Lessons aren't about being perfect. They are safe spaces to try something new and learn. Find a teacher who gets you excited about what you love.



My most recent student was a college student - I coached her for an upcoming performance. Seeing her confidence on stage was a highlight of my year.

Details

Voice lessons are $20 for a 1/2 hour. Acting coaching is also $20 for a 1/2 hour.  An hour of audition prep (working on song and monologue selections for an upcoming audition) is $40, with an additional $10 for every hour I spend looking for selections for my student (if he/she does not already have a song cut and monologue chosen). If I look for selections, I will pull at least 3 song choices and 3 monologue choices that fit with the show/character the student is auditioning for. I charge an extra $2 for every selection in addition to those. If you would like audition selections without coaching, that would also be $10 per hour.
