About Willa
I feel that the best thing a tutor can do is help their students reinvest themselves in the material. Hard work can feel like a positive challenge when the process is personal, and I believe in the possibility of creating meaningful connections to material.
I’m currently a freshman at Oberlin College, deep in the process of learning myself. I graduated from the Archer School for Girls in LA last year, as a creative writer who enjoys the structure of academic writing and appreciates reading and writing as an expression of self. I understand that learning is an emotional experience, and it’s important to honor all the feelings that come up in the process. Strengthening a bond with learning itself is a top priority for me. I hope to bring joy and engagement into my student’s lives as much as improvement of their technical skillset.
As much as I’m proud of my work, some of the memories I treasure most revolve around sharing my ideas with other people. Specifically, I’m an older sister to a brilliant kid who constantly asks questions and won’t rest without her answers. I have loved sitting down with her late nights at the dinner table pouring over an essay she’s outlining. Connecting with her and contributing to her ideas has been such a rewarding experience and I love to collaborate with others in that way. I have as much to learn from my students as they do from me!
