About Emily
Hi! I have taught high school English for 8 years in Chesterfield County. I have had the honor of twice being nominated for Teacher of the Year by the faculty at my school. Teaching is my greatest passion aside from being a mother. I believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable and valued, and when they can see the relevance in what they are learning. I have also found that students learn better when they are having fun! I strive to make my classroom feel welcoming, lively, and challenging. I feel confident that when my students leave my class each year, they are prepared for their next academic year. I love my students and work endlessly through researching best practices and attempting different strategies to help my students succeed. I would love to work with your child to help them succeed as well.
I knew I’d be a teacher my whole life—there is no other career path that excites me and challenges me and brings me as much joy as teaching does.
I am a fully licensed Virginia state teacher who has been a full-time public school educator for 8 years now.

I like to call it their “literacy history,” and that is the first thing I like to learn from my students. Did they love having bedtime stories read to them as children? Have they always felt insecure in their reading? Have they always felt confident? From learning their history in English, I then move on to assess their abilities through a few short narrative writing assignments so I can get a feel for them as people and writers.
I have taught grades 9-12 and worked with students with disabilities, gifted specialty center students, I have taught AP level courses and 9th grade general Ed. classes.
