About Skyler
As a current high school senior at Kent Place School, I have spent the past several years volunteering to help out younger students with homework, specific subjects, and more. These opportunities have been through volunteer positions, honor society requirements, and even nonconventional teachings such as swim lessons and EMT training. Being able to relate to younger students, my service comes with the ability to understand the situations these students are in and provide advice.
Additional information includes my acceptance into the University of Pennsylvania ED (Class of 2023).
I enjoy getting to know these students and finding a way to connect with them and understand their learning styles. When I was younger, I used to wish that I had an older sibling that could help me with my homework, study for a test, or help me with time management. Therefore, my goal is to make sure other students don't feel the same.

I like to spend at least 5-10 minutes speaking with the student about what they think they are like in school, favorite subjects, etc. I also make sure that I share a bit about my experience in whatever grade they are in or find something to relate to them about. Then, I try to ask them specific questions about what they believe they need to work on. With information from the parents, I usually bring problems or worksheets we can immediately begin working on together until I feel they should be trying to work it out by themselves. I really try to push self determination and perserverance to make sure that these students don't feel that they have a safety blanket, but instead trust themselves that they can work it out.
