About Elizabeth
12 Years teaching experience in the public schools in Ohio
Certified Licensed Teacher from Ohio with 2 licenses, PreK-3 Early Childhood with a K-12 Reading Endorsement, and K-12 Intervention Specialist (Mild to Moderate)
I have been tutoring/teaching students over the past 12 years, and recently decided to offer my services online to reach other students who may struggle with Reading and/or Math.
I graduated from The Ohio State University in 2005 with a B.S. in Education and in 2006 with a Master's in Education in Teaching and Learning. I substitute taught for 6 years in the public schools, and then taught full-time in 3rd Grade for the past 6 years, with my first year being an Intervention Specialist. My last 5 years were as the general education teacher, and I worked closely with the Intervention Specialist to incorporate an inclusive classroom.
My main accomplishment teaching Reading in 3rd grade was helping my students all become proficient readers and to be able to successfully pass the Ohio State 3rd Grade Reading Test and be promoted to 4th grade. In the 5 years I taught under the Third Grade Reading Guarantee Law in Ohio, none of my students were retained in third grade due to reading deficiencies. I always took pride and a sense of accomplishment in the amount of student growth I would see in 9 short months in my classroom. I typically saw about 1.5 to 2 years of growth on average over the course of 5 years! I enjoy seeing students feel that sense of accomplishment when they struggle and then learn how to overcome those struggles and become successful, independent readers!
I also have an area of concentration in mathematics. This was obtained during my undergraduate coursework at The Ohio State University. I have always found math to be my favorite subject as a student and it is equally important as reading and literacy. Math skills are used in everyday life, and students who struggle with basic math skills, find it difficult to advance to the higher critical level thinking skills to solve problems and be able to become successful math learners. I spent an average of an hour a day devoted to Math in my classroom because I felt it was that important for my students to have an emphasis on mathematics learning, the same as they did on reading and literacy.
I always wanted to be a teacher. As a kid, I played school, worked for teachers during the summer to help tear down and set up classrooms, and tutor students in high school. I had encouragement from a few teachers in high school that helped me choose the teaching career path. After high school, I attended The Ohio State University, where I received my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education. I then went on to pass the state licensure exams and became a certified teacher in the state of Ohio.

My family and I recently traveled to Universal Studios in Orlando during Christmas. My kids are huge Harry Potter fans, so of course that was the main reason we went. We like to travel around the United States and see new sights.
