About Liam
I’ve had the absolute pleasure of teaching guitar to beginner and intermediate players since the year 2000 and I’d be thrilled to teach you! I grew up in New Zealand and I've been playing guitar since 1996. Since then I've had 7 teachers throughout the world who've taught me a wealth of knowledge regarding guitar technique and music theory that I'm honored to pass on today. I’ve studied both tonal and modal harmony. One of my favorite teachers had a very all-round approach to his teaching, and because of that, I'm always inspired to teach my students the same way, unique to their goals. I've had students of all ages, each with their own challenges that we worked through together week by week. All of my tutoring has been done independently. If you, or your child, have a vision for your guitar playing future, I will help you build a solid foundation towards it. I will personalize everything, lesson by lesson. I’ll keep you inspired while developing the fundamentals of technique and music theory by incorporating the songs and solos you wish to play. The stronger your foundation, the more creative you’ll be! I've played in many bands and accompanied many singers over the last two decades, between Australia and the USA where I am now based (Burbank, CA). I have a diploma in audio engineering from SAE and in 2017 I finally built my own home recording studio where I am currently producing my own music. I will happily guide you through the process of building your own home studio if that’s what you wish to do. I am accepting students aged 9 & up. Ideally you will come to me, however, if you live in or near Burbank, I can come to you. Alternatively, I can check availability to travel further. Travel costs additional. I look forward to helping you make your musical dreams become a reality!

I started teaching in 2000 when my drummer's little brother wanted guitar lessons. I discovered how much I really enjoyed teaching guitar - the rest is history! From there I've gradually developed my own system that makes it easy for anyone with a desire to learn.
I've had many private teachers and spent years playing in bars and restaurants for a living (both solo & in a duo). On the production side of things, I have a diploma in Audio Engineering from SAE.

I like to start by finding out what music you're into, what songs you want to learn, and what your long term goals are. If you've tried to learn before, what stopped you from continuing to play? Depending on your current level of experience, I then begin developing a lesson plan uniquely for you.
I've worked with all ages and walks of life.
Learn from someone who knows how to teach music theory in a way that encourages YOUR creativity! If all you're learning are other player's songs and licks you'll eventually become disillusioned and find it very difficult to create your own music. You need to know how it all fits together! This is why, from the very first lesson, I include exercises that work your creative muscles.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my long term goals? What exactly do I want to get out of my lesson time? Is this teacher offering me lessons that fall in line with where I want to be in 1-2 years?

I had a lot of predispositions about what learning music theory and song writing was going to be like, and Liam made it sooo much easier!
He was able to keep up with my weird questions (because of said predispositions) and make the necessary reframes so I understood how I was complicating something so simple.
After a short amount of time I was given the material to master the essential basics to create music on an instrument I'd been trying to learn for more years than I care to mention.
I still have a ways to go, but thanks to Liam and his teaching method and style I have the material and the confidence of the knowledge to practice by myself.
And I'll definitely be coming back when I reach my next plateau!

Dude's a legend~Liam is a very approachable guitar teacher. No matter your skill level, he will make you feel comfortable so that you can believe in yourself and improve! I was able to see major improvements in my acoustic playing in only a few weeks. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to get over the hump from beginner to the next level!
I wanted to get back into guitar after years of not playing. I felt that a lesson would give me the jump start I needed and I'm so glad I booked one! Liam was so patient with me as he taught me the intro to one of my favorite songs! Next week we learn the chorus I can't wait!!!
