About Vince
Hello everybody!
My name is Vince Allis. I'm a private music instructor, currently living in Slovenia. I'm offering lessons over zoom.
Guitar:
I've been playing guitar for about 25 years and have experience playing rock, folk, jazz, blues, R&B, classical, and funk. I received my BA in music with a jazz specialization from Central Washington University in 2013.
Harmonica:
I've been playing harmonica for about 20 years. I'm primarily self-taught, but have had the occasional pickup lesson with renowned players such Jim McLaughlin, Jason Ricci, and Carlos Del Junco.
I've been teaching consistently for more than 13 years now. Over the last several years I've had the privilege of performing at various festivals and venues throughout the pacific northwest, including Chinook Fest, Jazz Alley, The Triple Door, and Neumos.
I find teaching extremely rewarding. Music is such a fun, and therapeutic skill to develop and an incredible way to connect with others. It's gratifying to teach students how to express themselves through music. Looking forward to connecting with you.
I started playing guitar when I was in 7th grade. By the time I was in high school I was giving guitar lessons to a few friend that expressed interest. Throughout the years I had picked up an occasional student, but after graduating from college in 2013 I was offered the position as a guitar instructor at a music store, and have been teaching and playing music professionally ever since.

When getting started with a new student I tend to ask them what kinds of music they want to play and what their goals are. Once I get I get a feel for their interests and skill level I can cater to each individual students' needs.
I've worked with students that are brand new to the instrument, as well as people that have been playing for 40+ years and want to learn some new tricks. My students have had a variety of musical interests ranging from finger-picking folk tunes, to jazz, to heavy metal.
Shop around. I've had a variety of different music teachers over the years and they all have different things to offer. Sometimes they are wonderful musicians but their teaching style doesn't fit my learning style. Sometimes you may find a personality clash. I'm a confident musician and teacher, but I also acknowledge that I may not be the best teacher for every student, and that's okay!
In December of 2021, through a series of unexpected events, I found myself in Albania with a community of Afghan refugees. After learning there was an interst in the community to learn guitar, I reached out to my friends and family back home, and managed to raise some funds to purchase guitars for the refugees, and offer them lessons. One young lady was a former student of the Afghan National Institute of Music, and I feel very fortunate to be able to offer her lessons, while she waits for her asylum case to be processed.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are your goals with music? If you know what you want to play, you'll be more inspired to practice and learn the instrument, and the instructors will be more able to cater to the interests of individual students.

Vince brings a gentle discipline to his lessons as well as a nicely structured method of learning the guitar. He is very committed to his music and his enthusiasm shines through.
