About Luke
I am a teacher for those who want structure and quality. I have been teaching professionally for 10 years and I have a lot of experiance with students of all ages and skill levels.
I began teaching in my late teens when one of my instructors encouraged me to try teaching as they believed I had the aptitude for it. Once I started I fell in love with it and have I am now very passionate about my job.
I have been studying music under private instruction with various teachers for 15 years of my life. This includes instruction included suck instruments as piano, guitar, cello and voice. Though I play a wide variety of instruments I have choosen to specialize in the guitar and I have 9 years of proffesional teaching experience under my belt.

I start by assessing the student's skill and knowledge level by having them play a few short songs or pieces (unless they are a beginner) and asking a few easy theory questions. Then I ask them a few questions about their goals to get a sense of how to craft a lesson plan for them.
With the initial assessment out of the way, we start by selecting 3 or so things to work on during the week. We start each lesson by reviewing the previous assignments so that we have good continuity and steady progress.
After a few lessons, I should have a good understanding of my new student as a person and a player and can build a effective plan from there.
I have worked with students as young as 6 years old all the way to some in their 70s.
I teach absolute beginners, those with some musical background (perhaps on other instruments) and even some professional performers who want to improve their skill and understanding.
Look for a teacher who has these 3 qualities:
1. A firm insistence on students learning music theory, becoming musically literate and learning good technique.
2. Clear leadership in making a lesson plan for you. This means they are not looking to you to decide what will be worked during each lesson.
3. A commitment to reviewing your assignments from the previous lesson every week and holding you accountable to their instruction for your practice.
A recent event I'm fond of...
Does it need to be music related? Well here goes nothing. One of my younger students knows how much I love to cook in my free time so, she brought me a couple recopies copied from her kid's cookbook for me to try. It was a small thing but it's pretty cool to me when a student is so thoughtful of me. Building real relationships with students parents is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. I love the music and the teaching process but it's wonderful to be able to make friends along the way.
