About Michelle
Honestly I am getting back into teaching after many years working full time in the city. I have not built a following since the early 2000s. Many students I worked with then have gone on to play music full time professionally and I am very proud of them and that I was the catalyst for them. I have improved as a guitarist and have an album out as well as feel I'm uniquely qualified to quickly and effectively introduce them to the fundamentals of guitar. Fun is something I also specialize in. I'm outgoing and very accessible.
I love music, it's my heart and passion and has helped me gain confidence in every other area as well. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others that are looking to experience the joy I've found in playing guitar.
1993 - kids were young and we lived in Brooklyn. Kids in the block knew I played guitar and they used to come to my house and I would informally show them things in he guitar and piano. That branched into them telling their moms and then I had more students than I could handle. One of my students became a guitarist for a pretty awesome band that toured the country. He credits me with getting his start. Most of the kids that stayed with me back then became way better player than me lol.
Honestly I started as piano player as a kid and that has helped me in songwriting. I have informally shown my friends and kids tricks and that led to more formal lessons. Although I read music and know music theory I have not always felt rock guitar to be something that you teach on a visceral level employing real technique but also making it fun. Example would be to find out students favorite song and breaking that tune down. Usually I'm able a lot in only a few lessons and I'm a believer in my "one song a week" after initial skill set is achieved

My first lessons would involve showing my students around the fretboard and possibly some simple chords. Accessing whether they want to accompany themselves while singing is important as well. I also would begin showing simple scales and reasons for them and find out what type of music interests them. I specialize in ear training and
mostly kids between 9 and 14 although I love teaching younger students as well. WhaI must be honest and say my focus is more acoustic than electric. I suggest a beginner learn on an acoustic the basics of guitar. Reason being is that the investment is minimal and if you can navigate an acoustic guitar electric will be easier to break into into.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Don't expect to sound like Eric Clapton or James Taylor right away. Be prepared for your fingers to hurt a bit until you've built up calasis. Think about what type of guitarist you'd like to be. How much time can you devote to practice. Singing and playing is different than playing alone.
