About Jonathan
I love teaching guitar. I can teach all ages from beginner to more advanced levels. I teach acoustic and electric guitar. Each lesson is custom made for students depending on their goals and ability.
I've been playing guitar for 20+ years and started teaching in 2012. I am comfortable with a wide range of styles, and can adapt my lessons to fit all styles of music. I also specialize in Christian music and song leading in a church setting.
I use a non-traditional approach to the guitar based on a love for music and improvisation during live performances. I have chosen not to teach standard musical notation, but I teach using guitar tablature.
I have found that most people just want to learn to play the guitar and not worry about reading music. However, I am familiar with music theory and how it relates to the guitar, and I will go into as much depth as the student desires to know.
I am very experienced with playing in a band and learning how to play from the heart.
I can provide references and testimonials upon request.
I began teaching guitar and singing to high schoolers as a church music youth leader in 2003. Then I took a long break. I resumed teaching private lessons in 2012 upon request from friends and family.
I have 20+ years of experience leading a church band. I have also worked with youth music groups and guided them into a fully functioning band. I play with a variety of musicians at all skill levels and have used all of this real world experience to inform my lessons.
