About Heather
I know it’s the cheesiest sentence ever, but it’s true: I pretty much always have a song in my heart. I’ve always taken the opportunity to get involved with music in some way throughout my life, whether it was taking piano lessons, singing in a choir, writing my own music, or playing guitar in a band. Teaching professionally for the past four years both in a music school and in my personal studio has given me the opportunity to share in other peoples' musical journey as well. There are many paths to becoming a musician so it's important to me that I understanding the individual student's goals and learning style. I motivate from a place of sincere encouragement, curiosity, and humor.
I earned a Bachelor's of Music in Music Therapy from Slippery Rock University. My primary instrument was piano, and I also continued studying guitar and percussion. I interned as a music therapist at Clarion Psychiatric Center where I was trained in group facilitation. Since then I have facilitated music therapy groups, taught percussion classes, mentored rock bands for kids, and taught private piano, guitar, and ukulele lessons.
