About Laurel
As a professional tutor of 15 years, I've had experience assisting students with reading and writing from kindergarten all the way through grad school. I began tutoring professionally when I was in college myself, and it became a springboard into a profession I really love. I trained with college professors, and was given tools to help students read for comprehension, write polished academic essays, and gain confidence in their abilities.
I believe in a low-pressure learning environment. Personally, I know it's easier for me to learn a new skill, or improve on one I don't thrive in or enjoy, when I'm guilded through it patiently. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" style of tutoring, and one of my favorite things about this job is finding what works best for the student. Those "aha!" moments when something clicks, or an idea comes together, are my favorite part of the job.
