About Sierra
Hello! I'm Sierra (she/her). I recently graduated from the University of Colorado with BA degrees in Astronomy and Physics and a minor in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. I have taken various physics courses ranging from Introductory Mechanics, to Electricity and Magnetism, to Quantum Mechanics, and more. I also have a strong background in astronomy, especially planetary science, which includes observation, instrumentation, and data analysis skills. I have received training in pedagogy and have experience working as a Learning Assistant.
When working with students, I prioritize the student's growth and understanding over quickly arriving at the correct answer. I encourage students to engage with the material and ask questions to create a collaborative learning environment. Whenever possible, I try to incorporate additional resources or visualizations to help illustrate concepts beyond verbal, written, or mathematical explanations. Many of these topics can be frustrating when first presented. My goal is to help make the subjects seem more accessible and to improve the student's understanding and confidence.
I welcome input from students and their guardians regarding learning and teaching styles that are most effective for them. I then try to adjust my approach to best match each individual's needs to help create the most comfortable and productive learning environment.
