About Jessica
I'm a certified math, science, and special education teacher with 6 years of teaching experience and a B.S. in Chemistry from The University of Texas at Austin. I specialize in helping students understand challenging concepts in a way that feels logical, approachable, and tailored to how they learn best.
I tutor a wide range of subjects, including middle school math and science, high school math and science courses, college chemistry, calculus-based physics, and mathematics through Calculus III. My background teaching students with diverse learning needs, including general education, honors, AP, inclusion, and special education settings, has taught me how to explain the same concept in multiple ways until it clicks.
What sets me apart is that I don't just teach students what to think. I teach them how to learn. After struggling academically myself when I transferred to a more rigorous school as a student, I became fascinated with the learning process and spent years reverse-engineering effective study strategies and problem-solving methods. As a result, I help students build strong foundations, improve confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and become more independent learners.
Whether a student needs help catching up, earning top grades, preparing for exams, or tackling advanced STEM coursework, I provide patient, structured, and personalized support designed to help them succeed both in the classroom and beyond.
I enjoyed helping my peers in class for as long as I could remember. When a teacher of mine had an after school chemistry tutoring session, I started helping out there, and that reinforced how much I liked helping people with understanding things. When I entered college, I started taking teaching courses, and now I'm on track to teach biology, chemistry, physics, or geology when I graduate.
I have completed the UTeach Natural Science program with composite science certification. The official certification will occur when I graduate next semester, but I have completed all requried courses including student teaching. This program taught me how to develop lesson plans, interact with students from elementary to high school, and accomodate for students who learn in various ways, among other things. I'm also a chemistry major who has had repeated exposure to the content, so high school and introductory college chemistry are second-nature to me.

I usually talk to students and see what their experience with the subject is. Then I figure out what they know, and develop a personal game plan to help support them through their educational journey, including in person tutoring for concepts and problems, finding videos or websites for them to use depending on their preferences, etc. I prefer working with students in person because I find that it's more effective to have opportunities to check for understanding frequently, which is easier in person.
I've worked with students of all ages and with 504s in science courses including elementary science, middle school science, high school biology and high school chemistry.
