I hold a PhD in physics. During my graduate career, I was in charge of teaching the laboratory portions of various classes such as College Physics I & II, General & Modern Physics I & II, Art and Science of Holography, Advanced Optics, Intro to Astronomy, and Special Relativity.

I first get an idea of the students level of understanding on the subject. I will then take some time to go over any misconceptions the student might have as well as expand upon the lessons provided in class. After this, I will work through examples and/or homework assignments with the student before opening up to general discussion for additional questions.
I have worked with countless students in courses ranging from middle-school to the collegiate level. I also have experience teaching students who may find learning difficult.
Look for a teacher who is passionate about the subject they teach. Physics can be dry if taught incorrectly. But in truth, physics is an exciting subject that can explain litterally everything we encounter.
I recently returned from a 6.5-month journey across Europe. I am very passionate about medieval history and reenactments, so I carpooled to Guedelon, France where a medieval-era castle was being built using tools accurate to the times. By chance, one of the carpoolers was dating one of the masons working on the castle. Through this fortunate encounter, I had the privilege of touring the construction site one-on-one with the mason who showed me several areas where tourists were not allowed. I was one of the highlights of my trip. I was all smiles the entire time.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should attempt all the problems of a homework set as best they can before seeking help. Far too often students give up on themselves before attempting the problem. I have had many students seeking help from me, and when I agree, they read the question for the first time in my presence. This must change. As teachers, we must instill confidence in our students. As the proverb says, we must teach them to fish rather than feed them fish. Therefore, the student must ask themselves, (1) "Did I read and understand the material?" (2) "Did I attempt the problem to the best of my abilities?" (3) "Are there examples in the book or from class that will provide clues about how to solve this problem?"
