About Lars
I have loved math for a very long time, and I try to help others find the joy in it as well. I have almost completed my Masters degree in mathematics, and I plan to do so in the next few months. I completed my Bachelors degree in mathematics in 2016.
My main vision and focus in tutoring is to help build confidence and independence in problem solving skills. I believe that everyone is better at math than they might think, and that with some one-on-one guidance, they can start to uncover their talents.
I have taught as a TA for almost every lower division math course my university offers, and as an instructor in College Algebra and Integral Calculus. I've also worked regular hours in the university's drop-in tutoring center. As a student, I have very diverse experience, with at least some knowledge of almost any area of mathematics. Recently, I have focused on Probability and Math Bio, and I've almost completed a Masters Project in those fields.
I recently began private tutoring, and it's been really fun helping the high school student I've been working with. Her confidence has improved a ton in the couple of months we've been meeting, and I hope to make that difference in others. I'd love to expand this further, to build the confidence in others.
Officially, I started teaching when I began my Masters degree in Fall 2020, through a teaching assistantship. I was able to start with teaching skills outside of mathematics, through leadership positions in other organizations.

I typically work with students on their assigned problem sets. I help them work through the problems, observing their thinking, and looking for insights that might help. I try to find connection to other mathematical thoughts, and expand on the topic more than a typical homework session might do.
I've mostly worked with college students, as part of my teaching assistantship. Individually, I recently began working with a high school student, and that has gone well.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do YOU want out of it? If you just want to get through your homework assignment, make sure that's understood. If you want to go further and learn more, push for that. It's about you, so treat it that way. Help us help you, by setting clear expectations and goals. We can work with you on how to reach those goals.
