Seeing the lightbulb click in a student as they come to an understanding of a difficult concept is one of the greatest joys in teaching. What more than to celebrate with a delicious homemade milkshake?
Teaching was not always my passion, but when I got to UNF and began tutoring some of my friends I realized how much joy there was in helping someone come to an understanding over a difficult concept.

I spend a bit of time getting to know the student. A tutor can only help a student as long as the student trusts him/her. When I get to the work at hand, I make sure to diagnose a student's understanding. What are they confident in? What do they need help with? The actual tutoring part will be based on students' needs, and the goal is for the student to demonstrate progress in their ability to understand a given problem. If a student has demonstrated significant progress then I reward them with a delicious homemade milkshake.
I have tutored over 200 people ranging from basic elementary-level math to calculus 3 at the college level. I have had highly intelligent students, ELL students, struggling students, and students with disabilities.
80% of tutoring is based on the relationship. Find a tutor that you enjoy to be with who you can trust will teach you what needs to be learned.
