About TINA
In my years of experience teaching math, I have compiled a wide variety of methods and strategies for explaining concepts in different ways. Because of this, I am able to re-explain until a student understands and is able to apply the material.
I truly enjoy teaching math and guiding my students towards understanding the material. That moment of clarity that comes after struggling with a concept is my goal with each student.
I actually always knew I wanted to be a teacher. And while I love teaching, there is also something wonderful about being able to tutor a student one-on-one and truly make a difference in their understanding of the math.
I am a certified teacher with 16 years of experience teaching middle school math and 14 years of experience tutoring. I graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelors degree, and then a Master's degree in Education, and then earned a second Master's degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut.

I like to start by looking through how a new student takes notes in class and studies for an upcoming assessment. If they are available, I also like to review any previous assessments to get an idea of how the student performs on their tests. We then get into the content currently being discussed in class and what kind of help the student thinks he/she needs.
Over the years, I have tutored in a variety of settings including private in-home tutoring, working for a math tutoring company, working an SAT prep course, and online/Skype tutoring. I have taught and tutored many students from different backgrounds and with different learning styles. As a result, I feel that I am a very flexible teacher and tutor. I understand that every student is unique and my style of tutoring is catered to meet the individual needs of each person.
It is ok if the first person you hire to help you with math is not the right fit for you. Make sure you feel comfortable with your tutor or else you will not be able to learn and perform to the best of your ability.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Reflect upon the area(s) that you feel you need help in the most. Is it the actual content that you are struggling with? The computation? Is it organizing notes and brushing up on study skills? Do you need the math explained in a a different way than how your teacher has taught the material?
