About Rachael
I studied Biology and Secondary Education at Vanderbilt University, and have over 5 years of both in-person and online tutoring experience.
As an artist and a science lover, I like to figure out strategies for different types of learners. Your visual learner might enjoy drawing diagrams and biological processes, while someone else's auditory learner might benefit from guided questions and repeating definitions aloud. I am patient, kind, and fun! I never hesitate to use humor with students to help them remember the material. I am engaging and interactive- your student might do more talking than me! Every day, I look forward to empowering students to take pride in their learning abilities.
As an Education Major at Vanderbilt University's Peabody College of Education and Human Development, I spent three semesters teaching, observing, and assisting in various middle and high school science classrooms. I was a Teaching Assistant at the Vanderbilt Summer Academy the summer of 2018, working with elementary and middle school students in a variety of subjects. I have over five years of tutoring experience, and have worked with students with learning disabilities (ADHD, dyslexia,etc.) and students on the Autism Spectrum. I have the most experience tutoring math, science, and SAT/ACT prep.

Generally, I will contact the parent and try to speak with them on the phone about their student. I ask about their academic goals as well as their personal interests so I can connect with them more authentically in our lessons. Before the first lesson, I reach out to the student or the parent to set expectations for the first lesson and share my intentions and contact information. During the first session, I like to spend 5 to 10 minutes asking the student about themselves and their prior knowledge on the subject at hand.
