About Danielle
My experience with tutoring includes Kumon tutor (~2 years), Math Honors Society Vice president of tutoring, after school tutoring. As a tutor, I like to establish a rapport with the student and understand their strengths and weaknesses. I always try to put myself in my student's shoes. It's important for me to critically assess why a student doesn't understand a concept and how we can reach a solution.
I've been tutoring ever since I was a freshman in high school. Tutoring is a great outlet for me to grasp the pedagogical teaching of math that is taught outside of my own educational experience. Math can be a monotonous and tedious task, and not everyone can understand it in a classroom setting. Being able to tutor one-on-one not only can improve your student's mathematical dexterity but also show your student that math is not as repetitive or boring as it seems.
I started as a requirement to complete community service hours for the Math Honors Society, but I really came to enjoy it because of the interpersonal connections I made while tutoring.

I typically try to establish a rapport with all my students. I learn about their interests, favorite subjects, and culture. I ask about their comfort level on the topics they're learning and ask about their general strengths and weakness in math (ie. bad at word problems, good at mental math). Before the lesson begins, we would discuss expectations they would want out of the lesson and I as the tutor strive to meet those expectations.
I've worked with students from K-11.
