About Carissa
I've been tutoring off and on since I was 18. I've worked with kids from pre-k to 11th grade on homework, building skills, studying for tests, and on projects.
I started as a nanny in high school and pretty quickly established a homework routine with the kids. As I got older, my schedule changed and I didn't have the availability that nannies need and moved to working with a few families solely for homework help / tutoring / preparing for the next school year over the summer.

First and foremost, I focus on getting to know the child and evaluate what issues they're having in school. A lot of the time, I've found that the struggle comes from a lack of confidence and not a lack of understanding. During the first lesson, we'll set up a plan to set goals for homework and/or skill building and focus on getting to know eachother.
I've worked with kids ages 4 - 17 and with a range of learning levels. Most of the children are on some type of IEP and I use the testing as goal marks during my sessions with the kids. I have experience working with kids with ADD, ADHD, Autism and social / anxiety disorders.

Details
I typically work with 45-minute lessons at $40 / session. With my younger students, we start at 30-minute lessons (for a lessened rate) until their focus builds up to the hour mark.
If paid monthly, I offer a $20 discount for the month ($140/month vs $160 when billed individually).
