About Kate
I am a retired professional educator with 17 years experience teaching high school and college mathematics. Up until recently, I taught at a prestigious private day school school and have also taught part-time at a community college.
I love the moment when a student owns their understanding for the first time. When it finally "clicks" for them. I enjoy working with teens and young adults. Their enthusiasm for life and their sense of humor always makes me smile.
I have been passionate about helping others learn since I was young. I actually began tutoring math when I was a high school student. In college I worked in the math tutoring center and in graduate school I was a TA. After finishing my masters, I sought out a position teaching mathematics in secondary schools due to my passion for working with young people and mathematics.
I have a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Mathematics. I have 17 years of experience teaching high school mathematics including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus and Calculus. I also have 10 years experience teaching at the community college level including courses in Pre-Algebra, Beginning and Intermediate Algebra, and College Algebra. I have tutored students aged 11-25 in all areas of math.

With a new student, I will first find out how long they've been struggling and on what concepts they are having the most difficulty. We will work some example problems so that I can identify foundational areas for improvement as well as identify areas where they are strong. From there we will address problem areas and create a plan for moving forward while strengthening their foundational skills.
