About Amy
With fifteen years of experience teaching math at a local, urban high school, I have learned that teaching math involves more than just presenting students with formulas and rules. A true understanding of the concepts is necessary for success. I pride myself on my ability to break down complex topics into understandable pieces and explain concepts in multiple ways.
I have worked with students of kinds - special education, English language learners, honors, advanced, at-risk, and students dealing with math anxiety.
I use a positive approach and believe that forming positive relationships with my students movitvates them to succeed even more.
I had always wanted to teach, but my confidence in myself was lacking. After working in an office setting, I decided that sitting behind a desk all day did not match my personality. I took a chance and became a teacher. It was the right decision and I love my job.
I have three degrees: Bachelor Degree, Master's Degree in Math Education and a CAGS (Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study) in Curriculum and Instruction

I typically meet new clients in person at a public location before private tutoring. We discuss concerns and goals before making a plan. Following this, in person tutoring can begin. For online/phone tutoring, we can have the initial meeting electronically.
