About Lawrence
Hi, I'm Lawrence! I am a current freshman at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business studying Finance and Business Analytics. I was born and raised in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, where I attended a small all-honors high school called the University of Illinois Laboratory High School. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and a love for math that I hope to continue to develop and share. I have worked as a tutor for five years, first teaching the SSAT to middle schoolers. I scored in the 99th percentile for the SSAT, which was a mandatory part of the application for my high school. I have also worked as a tutor at the Kumon Center for Math and Reading where I helped students aged four to sixteen on subjects ranging from basic math and learning how to read all the way up to high school concepts in calculus and Shakespeare. In addition, I have worked as a private tutor for the SAT in my hometown. I scored a 1580 on the SAT, with subscores of 790 for both sections.
I enjoy tutoring because it offers an opportunity for me to share my passion and experience in math, reading, and test-taking with students. It is rewarding to be able to explain principles in a new way that get students excited, or allow them to understand something that has been puzzling them. Further, by being able to build a personal connection with them and then see their growth quantified in their higher test scores I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.
I have tutored the SSAT and SAT locally. I have also tutored at a local Kumon Center for Math and Reading for the 4 years I was in high school.

I always start by asking them about themselves and what they think their strengths and weaknesses are. I then verify that by giving them a basic diagnostic test. Based on those results, I work with them to develop a timeline to achieve the goals they want. I then help them reach that goal with my tutoring.
