About Bernadette
I cater my teaching style to what works best for eeach student.
I love being a part of the journey. The student is the one doing the work, but I will act as a guide to help them achieve that lightbulb moment.
I am not a teacher, but I found a calling helping in the development of children. I have worked with the local school system, shadowing teachers and assisting in their daily schedules. I tutored peers in highschool and worked with a peer mentoring program in college where I assist children with their homework. I am currently in graduate school for Occupational Therapy where we learn how to educate and advocate.
I worked as a tutor in highschool. I currently work at a daycare center where I spend two days a week with elementary aged children, aiding in homework help. I spend two days a week in the Pre-K classroom, aiding in development of knowledge before kindergarten.

I like to develop a relationship with the student first. This allows me to understand their studying habits and how they feel they best learn. After this I like to work out a goal and plan for our tutoring sessions. This includes small goals for the session and a larger goal at the end. While the main goal is to improve grades, I want to make sure the child genuinely understands the material and is able to grow their knowledge.
I mostly work with elementary aged children. I do have experience with middle school and some experience with high school aged children. I have taken courses regarding the psychology of learning and how to best instruct children in different stages of life. I work most frequently with children who have a disability and require extra help to stay at pace with their peers.
