About Joe
Hello! My name is Joe, and I'm very excited to attend Duke University for Mechanical Engineering beginning next year. I'm currently a senior at Tower Hill School in Delaware. I've gotten 5's on AP Calc AB, AP Chem, AP U.S. Gov, and AP U.S. History. My math score on the SAT was an 800, and I also got an 800 on the Math 2 subject test. Currently, I'm studying multivariable calculus and AP Physics C, preparing to take AP Calc BC and AP Physics C this spring. Thank you and have a nice day! :)
I'm the oldest of two younger brothers, both of whom I've tutored for multiple subjects. I really enjoy helping my classmates out who are struggling, and I explain subjects very well so that the student understands not only the what but the why. If you take more time than others to grasp a subject, so be it! We'll spend the necessary time to make sure you understand the workings behind the material instead of simply reciting information back. I'm specializing in tutoring math, since I'm most comfortable with it; however, if you'd like to reach out at me for science or Latin, I'd be happy to help with those as well.

I always start off my lessons with homework from the previous session. As I'm grading the homework, I give a few warmup problems to get the gears turning for the material ahead. Once I'm done grading the homework and my student has finished the warmup problems, if there are any wrong answers, we go back and expand on why they are wrong and how to learn from this going forward. Next, I either teach new material or review material. If the student is having trouble understanding a topic, we take the time needed to go through and fully comprehend it. After this, I have the student do problems in waves of increasing difficulty. As they turn in the answers, I grade them while they are moving on to the next problems. At the end, I assign a few homework problems.
I've worked with middle school and high school students, primarily in math and science.
It's very important to reach out and speak with tutors before hiring them. A tutor can have impressive credentials while not being a good fit. Likewise, the opposite is also true – a tutor can have limited experience while being the perfect fit.
I climbed the Grand Teton in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in the summer from 7th to 8th grade. The 13,776 foot peak took two days and every ounce of energy to climb – and descend. We climbed above the tree line, through an ash cloud, and even had to wake up at 3 a.m. on the second day to ensure we'd beat any storms on the summit.
