About Marie
I believe that every person is creative; we are born that way. Art come from our souls; it is sacred and therefore there are no ‘mistakes.’ I encourage my students to paint what they feel, to be free in their artistic expression, combining the study of techniques with their innate creative spirits. Students come from all levels of painting experience. I’ve shared my work in art centers, cruise ships and corporate centers around the world. I encourage creativity and fun for ages nine to ninety.
My artwork is in both national and international collections. I moved from cold New York to St. Petersburg, Fl where I currently reside and teach experimental water media and collage.
(concealed information)
I thoroughly enjoy sharing the knowledge I've gained about painting. In the 23 years of teaching my emphasis is on design, color mixing, With a little practice anyone can learn the joys of creating art. Students enjoy my relaxed approach to honing their skills. To quote one student, "I enjoy your class immensely and you have encouraged me to do a little Art each day. You have such a joi d'art and it is contagious."
I was asked to teach Experimental Watermedia at the Dunedin Fine Art Center which is the first class I took at the facility five years earlier
I’m independently trained taking lessons from various artists in painting and drawing. My education is a continuous process.

First I find out what the student is interested in learning and what they hope to accomplish. Knowing something about their life experience is helpful in knowing them. I work with students at their level of experience with a focus on design and use of color.
My youngest student was three at the time. Her mother wanted her to get the feel for the paint and brush. She's now six and still loving to paint. My oldest, 92 is an accomplished artist who enjoys class with me. They say to teach what you want to learn. I've learned a lot from my students about life, living and art.
Talk to the teacher and tell her your about your artistic aspirations. Ask her how she may help you achieve your goals. It's important that you feel confident and get a good feeling from the person. Ask questions addressing any concerns you might have.

Marie has been my teacher for over six months and has freely shared her kindness and extensive knowledge of Art and what goes into making Art. She took me to a new level. I'm delighted.
As an artist, Marie Cummings' workshops really sparked my creativity! Her intuitive method opened me up to new ideas and techniques which I am able to incorporate into all of my artwork going forward.
Marie Cummings
This past year I had the pleasure of taking art lessons from Marie Cummings. She opened my horizons to working in a different medium and gave me the courage to expand my own concept of what I could do. Marie essentially took me out of my box with her thoughful instruction and encouragement. I'm looking forward to continuing my lessons with Marie. Her work is inspiring and beautiful!Amazing experience working with Marie Cummings. She is extremely creative and a wonderful teacher. Always presenting innovative ideas and helping us to see them through. I learned so much about color and shapes.
