About Terry
Art 2 Empower is the painting branch of my company, Terry Rosiak Images.
As a teaching artist, I received the 2018 Diplomat Award from the Dementia Society of America for my work using art to reach dementia patients.
I have worked with children who are on the Spectrum and have been rewarded seeing their progress in focusing on a task that is both rewarding and fun.
I have trained Hospice workers on how to paint with their patients, bringing an hour of joy to the patient.
I have done fund raisers for Alzheimer's Association and Girl Scouts.
I have been a photographer for over 35 years. My photography has been in over 60 shows, invitationals and solo exhibits throughout the Tri-State region.
I received an award for "Best of Photography" and have been published and have had one of my images on the cover of an international magazine.
I live and breathe art and photography. To be able to share that and see someone experience the joy I feel is a blessing.
When I work with a person who has a neurological disorder like dementia and see what they can accomplish, that is pure joy! Their smiles and hugs at the end of a session lifts my spirit.
When I teach children, I get so much pleasure seeing their faces and see their excitement. Some children it is baby steps and before you know it, we have crossed many obsticals.
I want someone to take what they have learnt from me and take it to the next level. To keep learning and have fun doing it.
Art: 40 years of experience. Currently doing art with people struggling with dementia on a one to one basis.
I also do paintings with small groups (similiar to a painting party) where we use the wet on wet method of painting.
I have taught personnel at Season's Hospice the art of wet on wet so they can paint with their patients to relieve stress.
I have done fundraisers with the girl scouts and various organizations with different types of painting: both wet on wet and pour paintings.
I have taken many workshops to improve my skills.
Photography:
I have been a photographer for over 35 years, the first 30 as a Black and White photographer. I had a black and white darkroom for 30 years.
My work has been in over 60 shows, invitationals and solo exhibitions. My works have been published and was also on the cover of an international magazine.
I love teaching photography and digital photography allows you to see at once how your image will turn out. I will guide them on post desktop and/or digital darkroom.

About the lesson

I will explain both the art and photography lessons.
For the art, I use the wet on wet method with new clients. This allows them to get a feel for the paint, colors, methods and brushes without fear. My main focus is to have student learn while having fun and creating something they are proud of by the end of their session. We build from there.
For some students, using a freerer abstract method is better since the outcome is a total surprise. This is excellent in getting someone to know about color and color theory.
For photography, in the beginning I teach the basics - shutter and aperature settings - totally manual on a DSLR. Each session ends with a question and answer period and a homework assignment.
If they do not have a DSLR, I would teach them how to operate what they do have, whether it is a phone camera or point and shoot.
Photography should always be something that thrills you and knowing how to use your craft to get the best picture.

Terry Rosiak is energetic, enthusiastic, kind, and always positive. When teaching my son a technique, she uses phrases that make sense to him (e.g., let the brush just kiss the painting.) She taught my son that there is no such thing as a mistake, that he can turn any accidental mark into a meaningful part of the picture. Also, before starting any lesson, she engages him in simple exercises to warm up both sides of his brain. Not only has my son created beautiful paintings through Terry’s instruction, but he has learned skills that extend beyond the lessons and into his everyday life.
