About Jessica
As a middle school science teacher in Orange County, I spend my days learning with my students and helping them develop a love for science. I am currently in my fourth year of teaching middle school science but I also have experience teaching high school physics. During my time in the classroom, I have taught students with a variety of special needs and English Language Learners of all levels, including those with little to no English. I am committed to working one on one with my students to make sure they understand the material and learn to enjoy the class. I have my Bachelors degree in Health Science from Boston University and my Masters in Education from Harvard University. I am current a Science Ambassador Fellow with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and work with the CDC to bring health science to life in the classroom.
I love getting to spend time with my students and seeing their knowledge develop and grow over time. The more questions a student asks, the more they learn! I enjoy getting to be a part of that experience with a student and helping them feel confident in their skills as they grow.
I am a credentialed math and science teacher in the state of California. I am currently in my fourth year of full time teaching in a public school in Orange County, California. I have an extensive science background covering all subjects from chemistry to physics to health and biology. In 2014 I received my Masters of Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. During the summer I teach computer science courses to upper elementary students.

When I meet a new student I like to get to know them and their learning style by watching them work through a homework problem on their own. After I observe their own unique strategies, I begin to ask the student questions and add comments in to help prompt them to think about the problem a new way or to assist them in remembering facts that will help them with the question. Over time, the student becomes more independent with their skills but still feels supported in challenging problems.
Make sure your tutor is someone you feel comfortable asking questions to and taking some intellectual risk with. It can be uncomfortable to admit that you are having trouble with a subject or are confused, but I have struggled with many of these science concepts myself over the years too! When you first meet a tutor, see if you can ask them these tough questions you have and if they respond in a way that makes you feel supported.
