About Tami
I enjoy helping each student feel successful in their accomplishments and in helping them feel accepted.
I enjoy making lessons and recitals interesting events.
I have themed incentive programs to keep "in class" testing a current yet fun, part of lessons. Most don't even realize they are being evaluated.
I need to understand their comptrehension level BUT I don't need to promote stress or anxiety over the need to test. I do this through games and themed programs where the student wants to partake of the next event/ testing, etc.

I absolutely love watching my students blossom in their confidence! Watching their eyes light up is my favorite part of each day.
Learning new concepts and learning how to do hard things shouldn't be drudgery. I thoroughly enjoy trying to teach concepts in such a way that the student feels empowered.
I have watched a student with a severe, genetic learning disability go from needing alot of support and guidance to being able to read notes and play music she loves. Her mom and I regret that we didn't video tape her from her first lesson to what she is now able to accomplish! When you use the right tools and teaching approach, wonderous things can happen!
I'm a nurse who after having 4 children under the age of 4 years old with varied medical issues, autism, and other challenges, decided to work from home doing something else I love.
I started teaching groups so that my children had buddies to help encourage them to continue to play even when things were difficult.
My education is diverse. Some of it is from raising six children with a large percentage of them with medical learning diagnosis. Some of my knowledge is from the various instructors I have personally had. I also rely a bit on my medical background having been trained/ educated as a nurse.
Since my degree is not in music education or performance, I will not teach certain intermediate students if I find their goals are long range to include potential for professional performance. I help families find a better fit for this need.
My education does help me to be a great fit for learning diverse students, beginning students, and hobbyists.

Before starting to work with a new student, I require a "meet and greet" assessment. At this event, I try to understand the family's needs and the student's learning style. Materials based on this are then discussed.
The first lesson in a group setting will always have a TA available to take over the needs of the group while I work one on one helping the student feel confident with beginning materials.
I love working with a variety of students. Every age group are a joy to teach. They each have different strengths and weaknesses.
I also have a lot of experience working with neurodivergent children, adults and children who struggle with high anxiety, and "traditional" students.
I recommend taking a moment before contacting any teacher to think through your long term goal in music. What are you hoping to achieve? Now consider your personal learning style, personality, and budget restraints. Prioritize what’s most important to you out of these items. Finally, look at the background or prospective teachers and decide if their teaching style and personality meshes with yours. Side note: I’ve met amazing musicians who aren’t talented teachers and extremely talented teachers who are good musicians but not at a professional level. Which is more important to you? Why?
Understanding your needs BEFORE reaching out can help you improve your chances of finding the right fit for you. Not every teacher is perfect for every student and that’s okay.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What are your long term goals in music?
2. How long do you believe it will take to reach your stated goal?
3. Does your teacher need to have more experience or more education? Why?
4. Does your teacher need to have experience working with unique needs such as anxiety, learning challenges, or other circumstances?
5. Are you committed to an extended learning experience or were you hoping to be very good in a short amount of time. If so, is that a reasonable wish?
6. Are you committed to acquire materials needed in a timely manner and to follow your teacher’s instructions every time you practice?
7. Do you understand, if you are the parent to a minor child, the ages and stages of children and what is required of you as a parent of said minor child? The younger the student the more parental involvement is mandatory. They can be successful without your help.

Details
I charge a flat fee each month. The current rate is $100 a month for online lessons. $92 a month for private, IN PERSON lessons and $82 a month for group lessons. These rates tend to increase at the beginning of each year to accommodate for cost of living increases.
