For new students that have no experience this is what I ask:
1. Sing a simple melody with them. Drop out and let them finish on their own.
2. Ask the student to match a few pitches within their singing range.
3. Show him/her the black key 2’s and 3’s. Ask them to cover the 3 group (fingers 1, 2, and 3 are fine; or 2, 3, and 4) and to copy simple patterns that you play.
4. Ask the student to clap back some short rhythms. Or, ask him/her to clap the rhythms to familiar tunes, like Row, Row, Row Your Boat.
5. Tell the student that the Musical Alphabet contains only the letters A through G. Ask the student to try reciting it backwards.
My students range from 4-5 year old children to 65-80 year old adults.
Whom else have you taught?
How much do you charge?
How long have you been teaching and playing?
How much do you expect your students to practice?
Would you play something for me?
What repertoire do you teach?
I recently attended a concert by Earth, Wind, and Fire at the Golden 1 Center. It brought back pleasant memories from the first time I saw them.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What is your professional and educational experience in music?
2. What is your teaching experience? What age groups do you teach?
3. How do you participate in ongoing professional development?
4. Do you have a written studio policy? Will you review it with me?
5. Do you regularly evaluate student progress?
6. What instructional materials do you use?
7. What kinds of music do you teach?

Mr. Reggie is very knowledgeable and his love for music and teaching shines through in every lesson. His kindness and teaching style is both motivating and inspiring for both of my boys. We have been blessed to have found Reggie!
I took Jazz Piano lessons with Reggie Graham and he had many helpful things to teach me about playing Jazz Piano. Not only teaching me how to play what's on the sheet on a technical level, he talked about why the chords in the songs were arranged the way they were, what kinds of patterns to look for when approaching a piece for the first time, and how to improvise and turn a song into my own. Moreover, he has great insight, a fantastic attitude, and an infectious passion for the art. I would strongly recommend The Piano Lab for students of all levels of experience.
Reggie is patient and adapts to his students unique learning pace and patterns. He is a very talented musician and is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others.
Reggie Graham is a charming and genuine man with a wealth of experience and knowledge of the piano. He assigned me plenty of fundamentals to hone my chops wow, consistently challenging my abilities.
The patients shown during class. The encouragement given aides in building confidence for my child.
Reggie is the best piano teacher I've ever had. As an adult student, who's picking it up again after a few decades, Reggie has guided me with great results. I feel connected to music again, and enjoy the material we practice.
I’ve been taking piano lessons with Reggie Graham for seven years. Although it took me a while to really start to progress in my studies, I couldn’t have done it without him. He’s taught me the basics and main techniques needed to learn piano, including genres like classical and jazz. 10/10
