About Quessa
Hello everyone! I am a private voice teacher, and also teach voice at a local university. I have been teaching privately since 2017, and have had many students go on to pursue vocal performance or musical theater at the university level. Some just sing for fun! I have worked with a wide variety of ages: kids as young as 7, and have also had folks in their mid 70's take lessons for the first time ever. Anyone and everyone can sing!
I received my bachelors degree in vocal performance from Mansfield University in 2019, and my masters degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from Ohio University in 2023. Additionally, while I don’t have a music theory degree, I have a strong background in theory as I’ve taken many graduate level theory courses including theory pedagogy, and served as a music theory graduate assistant while in grad school. I believe in teaching evidence-based pedagogy, and strive to help my students find their healthiest, and freest sound, by creating individualized lesson plans and goals to aid in the students development. I also love teaching and tutoring theory and aural skills.
My favorite thing about teaching is watching my students light up when they successfully accomplish a new skill in their technique. Singing is hard, and an incredibly vulnerable thing to do, so I believe in fostering a safe learning environment for all of my students. I love working with students of all levels, ages, and abilities because it keeps the job fresh, and keeps me constantly learning. :)
