About Emma
I am an undergraduate student of vocal performance at UC San Diego! My studies include individual instruction in classical voice and a vocal masterclass. In addition to my classes, I am the elected music director of one of UCSD's a cappella groups, UCSD Duly Noted.
Before college, I took private voice lessons from various teachers for several years, as well as participating in high school choir, earning the National School Choral Award for my work as a section leader. I've also participated in community and school musical theatre since age 11, and spent a year volunteering at Broadway Babies & Kids in San Carlos, CA.

I begin by asking the student what their personal goals are for our lessons so I can make our time together as enjoyable and productive as possible. I then begin with vocal exercises to gauge the student's voice and continue discussing their specific vocal struggles and goals. After that if we have time, I ask them to sing something of their choice for me and offer them support and advice. My goal first and foremost in our lessons is to create a comfortable space to explore and grow without judgment.
Utilize trial lessons! You should feel that you've made progress in just your first lesson when you've found the right teacher. Do as many trial lessons as you want to find the perfect teacher for you.
A good voice teacher helps you build confidence as well as skill. Look for someone that supports you and makes you feel good!
