About Hortencia
Native Spanish speaker teaching Spanish for 12 years ages 3-14 year olds. Equally fluent in English.
I love helping young children learn to speak and understand a new language and opening a new world for them.
I love the language and love working with children. When the school asked me to teach I instantly feel in love doing it. I absolutely love making it fun through games and songs for young children.
I have been teaching Pre-K through 8 grade in private Catholic Schools for 13 years. I have been a Spanish substitute for the Catholic High school for Spanish 1, 3 and 3 for 3 years. I am a native Spanish speaker and have also been speaking English for 47 years. I am fluent in both languages equally.

I give my student a quick assessment of their starting point and their needs. For young children I do more visual and help them with catchy songs phrases for vocabulary. We definitely work on plenty of conversational Spanish as well as vocabulary that is fun and useful. Simplifying grammar rules and how they differ from the English language depending on the age. Along with homework they may be having trouble understanding.
I teach Pre-K 3 through 8th grade. I prepare students for High School Spanis 2. I work with students of all backgrounds. A few years ago I had Vietnamese children who didn't speak English and still learned Spanish.
One of my students came to school so excited because she was able to understand strangers at Walmart speaking Spanish. The following week she was in the emergency room and helped a family who didn't speak English communicate with the nurses. She said it opened a new world for her and couldn't get more Spanish fast enough. Her mother was worried she would now start spying on people. I love how quickly and effortlessly children learn.
