About Lisa
I have been teaching core subjects to students of a variety of ages in the greater Tampa Bay area since 1982. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Petersburg College in 2019 with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education, and have taught all levels of students from PK-12th. My students tell me that my love for writing, grammar, spelling, and all things language arts inspires them to love it, too. It is not uncommon to have a student who never liked poetry to suddenly find it appealing and even fun to both read and write. Words are exciting, and writing should be fun!
(concealed information)
I have always been drawn to the weaving of words, and I have enjoyed being a professional writer for the past 35 years. Becoming a teacher was my earliest and most compelling life goal, and I have been blessed to realize that dream by teaching amazing students of all ages. I particularly enjoy seeing students who began as reluctant writers come to enjoy and even love writing and begin to understand the writing process in ways that make it easier to tackle any writing-related assignment.
I began as a K-4 teacher at age 19, followed by homeschooling my own five children through high school and then classroom teaching K-12.
I have a B.S. in Early Childhood Education with a specialized Elementary Education A.A. and over 35 years of in-person and online tutoring and teaching experience PK-12.

I typically encourage a brief (complimentary) meet & greet on Zoom to get acquainted and assess appropriate tutoring service needed.
I have worked mostly with neurotypical students, but am willing to expand beyond that experience to the best of my ability.
Look for a teacher who genuinely loves what s/he is teaching, and you will likely enjoy the learning experience. A keen sense of humor is also a plus, since learning is much more effective when laughter is involved.
A favorite recent event was attending a production of Les Miserables, in which two of my high-school level students played key acting roles. Their performances were outstanding, and the entire audience was astounded by the realism of acting, expressiveness, and musicality. It has been weeks, yet the music persistently plays in my head--a reality that only continues to remind me of the splendor of the evening.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Consider the ways in which you learn best. Think about what has hampered learning in the past and what might help make it easier. Consider possible techniques you think might make learning fun--even practices which seem more outside-the-typical-box.

I had been trying, and failing, to improve my sons reading fluency for some time before I decided that we would need some outside help. Based on glowing reviews from some other parents, I found Mrs. Easterling. In just a few sessions, Mrs. Easterling was able to identify ways that my son was misinterpreting words in his mind. She set out to address these concerns using many tools including poetry, drawing, visualization, and, of course, reading. This multifaceted approach not only has helped my son improve his reading skills but has also kept him engaged in the process. Mrs. Easterling took the time to explain to me why she is doing certain things, and she also explained them to my son, which motivated him to go along with the process and understand the end goal. While I thought my son simply had a fluency problem, Mrs. Easterling was able to identify underlying causes, including confidence, that caused him to stumble in his reading. These things also impacted his spelling and writing skills that we have since begun to work on. The advances that my son has made in his reading under Mrs. Easterling’s tutelage is only dwarfed by the confidence that he has gained due to the encouragement and positive reinforcements that have marked his sessions. Mrs. Easterling truly cares for the hearts and minds of her students. The joy she has in teaching them is evident not only in her words but in her actions. I have and will continue to recommend Mrs. Easterling to anyone who needs her services.
